508 vs PBO vs IH-PMA
Impact Health and the Private Membership Association
In an effort to protect both people (who were once “patients”) and health professionals, we knew that we could not have a “business as usual” mindset. Neither could we employ a traditional business structure.
As such, an extensive amount of research went into finding the best way to ensure the protections afforded us by our Creator and the United States Constitution.
Three structures were considered:
508(c)(1)(a)
Private Based Organization (PBO)
Private Membership Association (PMA)
There are two main issues why we chose not to not work with a 508(c)(1)(a):
One must be a church to operate as a 508(c)(1)(a) without government scrutiny
It is very difficult to partner with other organizations and do business with people and organizations that are not 508(c)(1)(a)
There are many reasons why we chose not to use a Private Based Organization (PBO):
PBOs can only receive payments by cash or check (it cannot accept credit or debit cards)
It is very difficult to partner with other organizations and do business with people and organizations (vendors, other health professionals, product companies, etc)
PBOs do not scale. That is, a PBO is limited local people only.
To fully take advantage of a PBO:
There is really only one, maybe 2, organizations in the United States who know what they are doing with PBOs
To structure correctly, it costs $19,000
To structure correctly, it will take a minimum of 15 months
To structure correctly, there needs to be a Trust in conjunction with the Private Based Organization
Because a typical PMA by itself is not protective enough, Impact Health developed a unique and proprietary PMA, that offers three levels of protection for the “patient,” health professional, vendors, product companies, etc, and anyone who is involved.
There are many reasons why Impact Health chose to use a Private Membership Association (PMA) over a PBO:
Can accept credit and debit cards (offers convenience for people and professionals)
PMAs, when structured correctly, can scale. Especially when using the Impact Health unique and proprietary PMA system.
Three levels of protection
Significantly less expensive and less onerous than a PBO
All are connected, but all are protected
